Introducing Amanda from Scented Purpose…
Who is Amanda?
Kind, loyal and loving with a little inner control freak sometimes thrown in 🙂
What do you do?
As founder of Scented Purpose, I wanted to create a small business with a big heart.
No stranger to a side-hustle over the years, the time had come to get my creative back on and bring back the joy of having my own thing going on. I wanted to involve my 10 year old daughter as much as possible – she is a creative soul with such a big heart and we knew between the two of us we would not only bring together and create some beautiful things, but we would easily spread a little kindness along the way. We retail a range of beautiful homewares.
It all started when at the end of last year we donated a handbag full of toiletries and essential items to the “It’s in the Bag” X-Mas appeal for Share The Dignity – an amazing charity that assists homeless women and women and children of domestic violence. I then decided to become a volunteer. That became the centre of our purpose – to give back whilst spreading a little kindness.
Why is this work important to you?
As most are aware, life is full of many ups and downs. I have certainly had plenty of times where I have had to draw on every bit of strength, but all the while the love and kindness of those closest to me was what allowed me to remain positive and move forward. Not everyone is fortunate enough to be surrounded by such kindness. That is why I wanted our purpose to be that of kindness.
When one of our products is purchased we donate 5% of the purchase price to Share The Dignity. It’s so important to me that our children are raised to appreciate how far a little bit of kindness can go.
Why is Confidence important to you?
Confidence allows the real me to shine through and for me to step outside the safety of my comfort zone.
Do you ever experience self-doubt? How do you move past it?
Self-doubt creeps up on me before I am about to do something new. I have been able to move past this by putting myself out there to new experiences whilst remaining confident in my abilities.
What is a hurdle in your life that you have overcome, and how did you do it?
Becoming a single mum to my now 17 year old boy who was only 1 at the time. The love and laughter this little man constantly provided was what got me out of bed everyday. It was the beginning of a new me, a new chapter in my life – one that was full of so much love, self-motivation and positivity.
Fortunately my biggest hurdles have turned into my greatest joy.
If you need to pick yourself up or give yourself a pep-talk, how do you do this?
Definitely a soak in the bath.
What does living life confidently mean to you?
Being true to myself whilst putting myself out there to try new things.
